LaSean Woods
ABH’s founder, LaSean Woods, is the 2nd oldest child in a family of ten children. Often given the duty of caring for his younger siblings, Woods learned responsibility at an early age. Raised by his single mother and later his grandmother, Woods always had a heart for those younger and less fortunate than himself. He began organizing youth church and community events during his middle school years to provide activities for at risk youth. These programs included sports camps and academic programs. He received his Associates Degree in 1993 and received a football scholarship to Portland State.
A career ending injury to his right knee closed his career at Portland State. Refusing to believe that his career was over, he rehabilitated himself and once again received a football scholarship to Morris Brown College where he received his Bachelors of Social Work Degree. Heavily recruited while at Morris Brown, he began to play Arena Football. During a try-outs for NFL he once again injured the same right knee. This time, it was truly the end of his professional career.
However, his commitment to youth never waned. He has continued to create innovative programs such as the summer lunch program, traveling dental program and individual mentoring programs designed to address their needs and fill the gap in services that currently exists for them.
